Bolton and District Hospital Saturday, or put more simply, Hospital Saturday, is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping our members receive a financial helping hand when medical treatment is required - this can take the form of a cash payment when you've been in hospital, cash back for your dental bills or even a contribution towards the cost of complementary therapies - visit the services page for the full list of benefits that are available to you.
The company, formed in 1877, is limited by guarantee without share capital, which means that it is run for the sole benefit of its members.
As a registered insurance company, Hospital Saturday is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and complies with its rules, regulations and financial solvency margins. These are designed and are in place to protect you.
In addition to our own formal complaints procedure (which is always available) members are able to refer any unresolved complaints to the Financial Services Ombudsman.
Hospital Saturday is an award winning company and is recognised as an Investor in People organisation. We are also featured in the Cashplan reviews from the Martin Lewis "Money Saving Expert" website.

The history of the organisation is a wonderful story of people working together to benefit each other.
The origins date back to a public meeting on 1 December 1813 when the residents of both Great and Little Bolton agreed to organise a public collection to raise the money needed to open the first ever dispensary.
This 7 bedded dispensary which opened in 1824 was the first access that most people had to basic healthcare.
In 1877 Hospital Saturday was charged with raising the £70,000 needed to build a new infirmary. Volunteers collected 1d from Mill Workers every Saturday morning - hence the name Hospital Saturday.
The new infirmary was finally opened on the 21 July 1883.
Hospital Saturday continued to fund the running of the infirmary right up until 1948 when the new National Health Service took over responsibility. We still support the work of the NHS by making regular donations and raising additional money for much needed equipment and extra patient facilities.
Most importantly Hospital Saturday now, still true to its not-for-profit origins, can help you with the cost of the everyday medical expenses we all incur. Contributions to its Health Care Cash Plan start from just £1.60 per week and provide a wide range of cash benefits to assist with NHS and private medical expenses.
